Important information about summer classes

If you are taking summer classes, there are a few important things to know regarding tuition, GPA, and schedule.

Know how summer courses work!

If you are considering taking courses over the summer, there are a few important things to remember:
  • Courses taken during the summer at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities contribute to your cumulative and technical GPA.
  • Summer courses taken at the University of Minnesota count toward academic standing requirements. Poor performance can lead to academic suspension or probation.
  • Tuition is different for summer courses. Download the University's 2016-17 undergraduate tuition fact sheet (PDF) for more information.
  • Summer courses move quickly and meet more frequently than you might be used to. Carefully evaluate your ability to be successful.
There is more information available on the academic advising blog about taking summer courses.

You also may make an appointment to talk with your academic advisor if you have additional questions. Schedule your appointment by sending an email to cseadvising@umn.edu or calling 612-624-2890.

Students admitted to the University Honors Program (UHP) should meet with an honors advisor at Northrop, Suite 390. Visit the University Honors Program website for your honors advisor's office hours.
