Scholarships available to students interested in power conversion or transfomers

Applications are being accepted for the 2018-19 Transformer Association scholarship program for qualified students enrolled in degree programs who have exhibited an interest in transformers or power conversion design. Recipients will receive a one-time award up to $2,500.

About the program:
The member companies of The Transformer Association (TTA) have established an academic scholarship program for the 2018-2019 academic year to support qualified students enrolled in degree programs who have exhibited an interest in transformers or power conversion design through course work or other activities, and who might be considering a career in the transformer industry. TTA will award a scholarship based on academic merit and the applicant’s demonstrated experience and interest in the field of power conversion.

The scholarship will be awarded in the form of a one-time grant of $2,500, based on the review of applications and the judgment of the TTA Scholarship Committee and Board of Directors.


Eligibility:
Scholarships are available to college undergraduate or graduate students studying in North America who will be enrolled full time for the 2018-19 academic year in pursuit of an undergraduate or advanced degree in magnetics, electrical transformer design, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar discipline.

To be considered, interested individuals must submit a letter of application by the deadline below with the following information included or appended:
  • A resume that includes, at a minimum, the applicant’s mailing address, daytime phone, email, school, major, grade point average, anticipated date of graduation, part-time or summer employment, awards and recognitions and extracurricular activities. 
  • A letter describing the applicant’s interest in the field of transformers, including courses taken, papers written, research projects, summer or part-time employment, co-ops or work study programs, and any other information that might inform the scholarship xommittee’s deliberations. 
  • A letter of recommendation from one of the following: department chairman, faculty advisor, or a professor familiar with the candidate’s academic experience and achievements, and confirming the applicant’s interest in transformers. 
  • A certified copy of the applicant’s academic transcript.

Completed applications must be received by The Transformer Association by Sunday, April 1, 2018.  

Following their review, the scholarship committee may require telephone or personal interviews with applicants. Successful applicants will be notified, and scholarships awarded, in June 2018. Successful applicants will also receive an expense paid trip to the Annual Meeting of The Transformer Association in Savannah, GA.
