Summer cancer research program now accepting applications

The Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at the University of Texas at Austin Department of Biomedical Engineering is now accepting applications for the 2019 summer cancer research program. Dates are May 31-Aug. 9, 2019.

The Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at the University of Texas at Austin Department of Biomedical Engineering is now accepting applications for the 2019 summer cancer research program.

The program runs from May 32-Aug. 9, 2019.

Each scholar attending will receive structured mentoring from both faculty and graduate student mentors, as well as 10 weekly, 90-minute CUReS Cancer seminar addressing professional development and exploration of biomedical engineering careers.

Seminar topics include:
  • Applying to graduate school 
  • Social impacts of research 
  • Research ethics 
  • Ethics of reporting on research 
  • Balancing research and family 
  • Practical skills for presenting research,and interpersonal communication 
  • Reflective activities on research experiences, learning processes, and personal career goals

Scholars will receive:
  • Summer research experience with a stipend of $5,000
  • Subsidized housing and meals on campus, and partial travel support
  • $1,000 to present at the BMES annual meeting in October 2019
  • An opportunity to work on an interesting interdisciplinary topic
  • Mentorship from a faculty member and a graduate student
