Volunteer as a student ambassador at high school STEM conference on campus

The University's Institute for Engineering in Medicine is seeking undergraduate students to serve as student ambassadors during its upcoming Inspire Conference on Friday, Nov. 16 for high school students. The conference aims to inspire high schoolers to pursue careers in STEM and apply those skills to the challenges in medicine. Deadline has been extended to Friday, Nov. 9.

The University of Minnesota Institute for Engineering in Medicine is seeking University undergraduate students to serve as student ambassadors during its upcoming Inspire Conference.

The conference aims to inspire high school students in 10-12th grade from Minneapolis and St. Paul Public Schools and charter schools, as well as students from small, rural schools in greater Minnesota to pursue future careers in applying science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to the challenges of medicine.

The volunteer student ambassadors will fill a 90-minute breakfast or lunch shift.
  • Breakfast shift from 9-10:30 a.m. 
  • Lunch shift being from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. 
Free food and coffee!

Ambassadors can volunteer for one or both shifts.

To sign up to volunteer, contact Ken Rosen at krosen@umn.edu or 952-884-5169. The sign-up deadline has been extended to Friday, Nov. 9, 2018.

Each student ambassador will be teamed up with a group of several students and one or two adult chaperones, from a particular school, and stay with that group throughout his or her shift, including sitting at the same table with them.

The student ambassador’s role will be as follows:
  • Host the students at their tables during either the opening or lunch session in Memorial Hall
  • Guide students to the morning or afternoon breakout sessions
  • Get to know the students and answer any questions they may have prior to and between talks.
