About LeaderShape

LeaderShape is a unique partnership between the College of Science and Engineering and the Carlson School of Management, providing an opportunity to explore leadership at a personal and community level, and beyond. The program is suited for those interested in leadership positions, as well as those who would like to improve in an existing leadership position.

Since its inception in 1986, the LeaderShape Institute has established a reputation as one of the premier leadership development programs for young adults worldwide. More than 60,000 young people from colleges universities, corporations, and organizations have graduated from the program, including more than 500 from the University of Minnesota.

The Institute challenges participants to lead with integrity while working towards a vision grounded in their deepest values. As well as being an opportunity to develop skills to improve their organizations, participants praise the Institute as a time of great introspection. The week is structured so that participants first gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their own strengths and weaknesses, ultimately enabling them to be more effective leaders in their organizations. A recent Institute participant summarized the experience the following way:

“Personal insights have had the most effect on me. It's really hard to nail down, but I learned to think bigger, that I have a responsibility to lead, that there is strength in diversity, and that I can make a difference...”

For more information about the Institute and to apply, visit z.umn.edu/leadershape.

There is a $100 participation fee for all students who are selected to attend LeaderShape, which includes four days lodging, food, and travel to and from Camp Courage. If the fee proves to be a hinderance to your participation, please contact Ben Koch at koch0137@umn.edu to inquire about a scholarship.
