About the Job

This seasonal position will start Monday, May 11 and end Friday, Sept. 4, 2020.

Work hours will be 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday (40 hours per week) during training and camp sessions (June 8-Aug. 7) with the exception of the July 3, which is the University holiday observing Independence Day. Applicants are eligible to work a maximum of 20 hours per week otherwise.

Outreach Assistants serve as camp counselors for three CSE summer day camp programs, including Eureka! (in partnership with Girls Inc. at the YWCA of Minneapolis) and Discover STEM. Alumni Testimonials
  • “Being an Outreach Assistant was a great way for me to work on transferable skills like effective communication, goal setting, and working with people from different backgrounds within the context of STEM. And this is all not to mention the technical skills I gained as well. Before that summer, I had never written up a lesson plan (a.k.a. technical writing) or used a laser cutter!" (Nibir S., 2019 Outreach Assistant)
  • “I also had a chance to learn more about all the research that happens on campus and create important professional relationships, all while making some incredible friends!" (Jeffy J., 2019 Outreach Assistant)
  • “I gained valuable leadership experience in a fun environment." (Sam M., 2018 Outreach Assistant)
  • “Working as an Outreach Assistant was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had." (Maya R., 2017 Outreach Assistant)
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
