Celebrate first-gen college students!

Join the University of Minnesota and colleges across the U.S. in celebrating the presence and experience of first-generation college students, faculty, and staff on campus during First-Generation College Celebration Week Sunday, Nov. 8-Friday, Nov. 13. Several virtual events are planned during the week.

The virtual campuswide celebration includes webinars, workshops, panel discussions, game nights, and other activities throughout the week. Additionally, students, faculty, and staff are invited to share their #UMNFirst story and share a photo of themselves in the Giant First-Gen Proud MN installation on the Northrop Plaza. Tag #UMNFirst with your photo on social media for a chance to win a $50 gift card to the University Bookstore.

If neither of your parents have earned a four-year college degree in the U.S., then you are considered a first-generation college student.

Everyone is encouraged to use items in the marketing toolkit to share their first-gen pride or support and use the hashtags #CelebrateFirstGen, #FirstGenProud, and #UMNFirst in social media posts.
