In each of the three-hour competition sessions, participants work individually on six challenging mathematical problems. For each of the 12 problems, participants will handwrite their work on plain 8.5-by-11 sheets of unlined paper. Each problem will be graded and assigned a score from zero to 10 and to obtain full credit, participants must submit all work to justify a solution and all necessary steps of a proof.

Participants must be a current University of Minnesota undergraduate student (visiting students are allowed); must not have a bachelor’s degree, its equivalent, or higher; and have not already participated in four of the previous competitions (with the exception of last year’s “unofficial” online edition).

The local supervisor is Jack Conn, associate professor in the School of Mathematics. Conn will hold practice sessions each Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in Vincent Hall, room 364, until the competition. For additional information, contact Jack Conn at connx001@umn.edu.
