Earn credits and be a part of hands-on engineering learning and challenges with real-world impact this May. CSE International Programs is working carefully to restart group study abroad and is seeking applicants for May 2022 sessions in Switzerland and Tanzania.

Led by CSE professors, the three-week May Global Seminar programs are open to all CSE majors. There are no prerequisites or language requirements. If you are interested in either seminar, please contact cseabroad@umn.edu right away.

Design for Life: Water in Tanzania
  • Travel dates: Saturday, May 14-Tuesday, May 31, 2022
  • Credit received: Students will receive three credits for ME 4583 or CEGE 4583. This course also fulfills Liberal Education themes Global Perspectives, and Technology and Society.
  • Eligibility: Open to upper division CSE students.
  • Admission: Admission is by application. Contact cseabroad@umn.edu for application information and to join the Wednesday, Feb. 1 group meeting.
  • Language prerequisite: None
During this program, student teams will evaluate community needs and infrastructure to model potable water-handling systems. The seminar will include a cultural and geographical introduction to Tanzania, its land and people, as well as a trip to Ruaha National Park, one of the world’s most famous safari destinations.

Switzerland—Mechantronics in Switzerland
  • Travel dates: Friday, May 13-Friday, June 3, 2022
  • Credit received: Students will receive three mechanical engineering credits. A new course designator is being generated for 2022.
  • Eligibility: Open to U of M and non-U of M juniors and seniors.
  • Admission: Admission is by application. Contact cseabroad@umn.edu for application information.
  • Language prerequisite: None
This seminar is for juniors and seniors interested in product design, robotics, programming, and development. Based at the Z├╝rich University of Applied Sciences in Winterthur, the program is a specialized, concise course in mechantronics—complex systems, composed of mechanical components, computers, and sensors.
