Virtual fair platform: Handshake

The Spring Career Fair will be hosted on Handshake. The platform provides features that will allow you to connect personally with employers. Now is a great time to begin researching employers and preparing yourself for the Career Fair. Here are some things you can do to make sure you're ready.

Update your Handshake profile
In order to view the availability of and schedule one-on-one employer meetings, you must first update your Handshake profile following these steps:
  • Log in to Handshake and search for the College of Science and Engineering Career Fair in the Events tab
  • Include your major and year of graduation (called End Date) in your profile
  • Go to your Settings and select Employers or Community (recommended).
Prepare your resume
Review the Undergraduate Resume Guide (PDF) or Graduate Resume and Curricula Vitae Guide (PDF), then schedule an appointment with a career counselor for a resume review.

Create your introduction (your "Elevator Pitch")
Review the Virtual Career Fair Preparation Guide (PDF) and use the "Past, Present, Future, Question" model found in the guide to know what to say about yourself when you meet with employers.

Research employers of interest
Employers attending the Career Fair will expect that you know something about what they do and may ask you why you are interested in their company. Start by reviewing the list of registered employers in Handshake. Next, make a list of employers of interest, then visit companies' websites and LinkedIn pages to learn more about them. Review the Researching Employers and Industries Guide (PDF) to learn more.

Prepare for interviews
Review the Interview Guide (PDF) and make an appointment for a mock interview with a career counselor.

CSE career counselors and peer advisors are also available to review resumes and answer Career Fair questions via individual appointments or during drop-in from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday this week. Please visit the Career Center appointments page to schedule an appointment. To have your resume reviewed by an employer, please register for the Virtual Resume Marathon on Friday, Feb. 4.
