Mark your calendar now to join CSE Career Services for major and career exploration workshops in January and February 2023. The two-part series is geared toward first- and second-year CSE undergraduate students but is open to all CSE undergraduates who are exploring majors or career options. Lunch is provided.

Learn about guidelines for employers recruiting CSE students

The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) understands the competitive and deadline-driven process of recruiting. To reduce the likelihood of students feeling pressured to make hasty decisions to accept then renege on a job offer, employers are asked to adhere to CSE recruiting policies. If you receive an offer that doesn’t meet these guidelines, you can share the policies directly with the company and ask for more time to decide.

Scandinavia global seminar information session is Thursday, Jan. 26

Learn more about the May 2023 CSE Global Seminar studying existing and emerging energy production methods and energy usage in Iceland, Denmark, and Norway at an information session Thursday, Jan. 26. If you're interested, talk to your family over winter break and mark your calendar to attend.

Stay safe on and near campus

Stay up-to-date on University safety measures and resources so you can make informed decisions to keep yourself safe on and near campus, especially when staying late to study on campus. The University provides free walking and biking escorts, virtual escorts, and late-night rides.

Graduating seniors: Take the post-graduation survey

CSE students who will graduate in December 2022 should complete the Post-Graduation Survey and report their plans following graduation. The survey takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

Register for the spring 2023 Think Like a Researcher mini-course

University Libraries, in partnership with the Office of Undergraduate Research, is offering "Think Like a Researcher," an online mini-course to help undergraduate students become comfortable with the skills and tools needed to participate in a variety of research opportunities.

Walter Library will have 24-hour access, seven days a week with your U Card beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9 through 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22. The library has study space, a group study room, copy machines, study break activities, and more.

Prepare for finals with Exam Jam and Effective U tutoring

Get support from academic success centers through finals week in this year’s Exam Jam. Find free events, services, and resources to prepare for final exams, papers, and projects, including extra tutoring, writing help, study and planning workshops, and de-stress activities and resources, all designed to help you success. You can also check out the Effective U self-guided final exam prep tutorial to learn tips and skills for studying and preparing for final exams.

Important end-of-semester information for students on academic probation

If you are currently on academic probation, the CSE Office of Academic Advising will review your fall semester grades once posted. If you do not meet the terms of your probationary period, you will be notified of your academic status via your University of Minnesota email by the end of the day Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023.

Apply for a grant of up to $5,000 in the MIN-Corps MVP Prototyping Challenge by Thursday, Dec. 15

Apply for up to $5,000 in the MIN-Corps Minimum Viable Product (MVP) Challenge to develop a prototype that demonstrates the impact of your innovation. The MVP Challenge will award up to 30 grants ranging from $100 to $5,000 each. The application deadline is Thursday, Dec. 15.

Apply for the Advanced Energy STEM Diversity scholarship by Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023

Advanced Energy's STEM Diversity Scholarship provides $20,000 to qualified students majoring in electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or material science. Scholarship recipients also will have the opportunity to intern with Advanced Energy. Application deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023.
