Apply for personal project funding!
Do you have a great idea but need some money to get started? University of Minnesota CSE students can apply to receive up to $500 from the Taylor Student Project Fund to fund a personal project prototype.
The fund is available to students each fall and spring to purchase materials and components for individual or group projects.
Applications submitted before the end of the day on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, will be given priority.
After the initial round of funding, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funds run out.

- Applicants must currently be enrolled as undergraduate students in CSE.
- Applicants may only apply once per semester.
- Project proposals cannot be related to student group projects, research, or coursework.
- Projects must use prototyping equipment in the Anderson Student Innovation Labs.
- Projects must have some educational value or novel aspect for the applicant.
- Projects must contain some original work. CAD models, code, PCBs, art, music, etc. should all be original designs.
- Educational value: Will the applicant learn something from this project? Is the project related to their major?
- Project scope/viability: How much experience does the applicant have? What is the project end goal and how much is the applicant trying to achieve during this round of funding?
- Originality: Is the project mostly original work or is the applicant just following an online tutorial?
- Safety: Is the proposed project safe to work on in University facilities? Is the project end goal safe to operate? Does the applicant have a safety plan for potential hazards?
- Does the project align with the mission and values of the University of Minnesota?
