Mark your calendar for the Spring 2024 CSE Career Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Start preparing over winter break by updating your resume, preparing for interviews, and researching employers.

What you need to know before you accept a job offer

The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) understands the competitive and deadline-driven process of employee recruiting. To reduce the likelihood of students feeling pressured to make hasty decisions to accept then renege on a job offer, employers are asked to adhere to CSE recruiting policies. If you receive an offer that doesn’t meet these guidelines, you can share the policies directly with the company and ask for more time to decide.

No Student Services drop-in hours over winter break

There will be no drop-in hours for CSE Academic Advising and Career Services during winter break. Regular drop-in modality will resume Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024.

Apply for the Advanced Energy STEM scholarship by Thursday, Jan. 19, 2024

Advanced Energy's STEM Scholarship provides $20,000 to qualified students majoring in electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or material science. Scholarship recipients also will have the opportunity to intern with Advanced Energy. The application deadline is Thursday, Jan. 19.

Apply for the University of Missouri Summer Undergraduate Research Program by Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024

The University of Missouri is accepting applications for their Summer Undergraduate Research Program beginning in late May. The Summer Undergraduate Research Program hosts 50+ students from institutions across the nation. Students will be provided with on-campus room and board, travel to and from Columbia, Missouri, and stipends that range from $3,400-$5,400. In addition, many programs provide one credit hour of research. The application deadline is Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024.

Now is the time to update your Expected Graduation Term (EGT) in the MyU portal. If you are nearing graduation, also be sure to prepare for the final steps of your academic experience, including marking your calendar the CSE Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 9. Students graduating in Fall 2023, Spring 2024, May/Summer 2024, and Fall 2024 are eligible to participate in the 2024 CSE Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, as well as those who graduated in Summer 2023.

Apply for the Lillehei Heart Institutes summer 2024 research program scholarship

The University of Minnesota's Lillehei Heart Institute (LHI) offers annual summer research scholarships in basic science research related to cardiovascular disease. Tentative dates for the 2024 program are Monday, June 10-Friday, Aug. 2, and scholars are required to attend Cardiopalooza on Wednesday, July 31. Applications will be accepted beginning Friday, Dec. 1-Thursday, Feb. 1. All scholars will receive a $4,000 stipend.

Apply now for spring admission to your major

The CSE Admission to the Major database is now accepting applications for spring semester admission into the major. Most CSE students apply while enrolled in sophomore-level courses. In order to be eligible to apply this semester, you must have all of the required courses for your chosen major completed by the end of the semester. If you are eligible, you should apply immediately using the steps outlined by the CSE Office of Academic Advising. The deadline to apply is Saturday, Dec. 30.

Lower- and upper-division students who are on track to receive a degree from the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering (CEGE) are eligible for a Bolton & Menk Scholarship worth up to $8,000 ($2,000 per year for up to four years). The application deadline is Friday, Oct. 27.

CSE Career Services offers extended drop-in hours, Career Fair tours

CSE Career Services will hold extended drop-in hours Monday, Sept. 11-Friday, Sept. 15 from 1-4 p.m., and Monday, Sept. 18 from 9 a.m.-noon, in preparation for the Fall 2023 CSE Career Fair on Tuesday, Sept. 19-Wednesday, Sept. 20. You can meet with a career counselor for 5-10 minutes to ask questions about the career fair and have your resume reviewed. Drop-ins are held in Lind Hall, Room 105 Monday-Thursday, and virtually on Friday.

CSE Ambassadors are seeking sophomore, junior, and senior students to be peer mentors to first-year students during the 2023-24 academic year. Mentors will receive a $200 scholarship for spring semester 2024.
