Employer Optum Technology will host an information sessions for CSE students this week.

Apply now for spring admission to your major

The CSE Admission to the Major database is now accepting applications for spring semester admission into the major. Most CSE students apply while enrolled in sophomore-level courses. In order to be eligible to apply this semester, you must have all of the required courses for your chosen major completed by the end of the semester. If you are eligible, you should apply immediately using the steps outlined by the CSE Office of Academic Advising. The deadline to apply is Saturday, Dec. 30.

Register for Electroposium 2023: Shaping the Electrified Future on Monday, Oct. 9

Explore the latest technological advancements in the future of electrification at the Minnesota Center for Electrification Opportunity's (CEO) "Electroposium 2023: Shaping the Electrified Future," on Monday, Oct. 9, at McNamara Alumni Center. Hosted by CSE's Technological Leadership Institute, the Electroposium will feature hands-on training, informational sessions, breakout sessions, and networking with industry professionals and academic experts. The event is free for University of Minnesota students.

Monday, Sept. 25, is the final day for sophomore, junior, and senior CSE students to sign up to be matched with an industry mentor working in your major or career of interest. Mentors can provide advice on succeeding academically, finding a job or internship, exploring graduate school, and making professional connections. Space is limited so sign up now!

Employer Medtronic will host an info session for CSE students on Thursday, Sept. 28

Join employer Medtronic, and the Medtronic Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) and Multicultural Engineers and Scientists at Medtronic (MES@M) programs for an information session for CSE students about upcoming internship and co-op opportunities on Thursday, Sept. 28. Join CSE Career Services on a site visit to Milliman Acturarial in Minneapolis. Transportation is provided. Space is limited and registration is required. All students are welcome to attend.

Apply for a Bolton and Menk University of Minnesota scholarship by Friday, Oct. 27

Lower- and upper-division students who are on track to receive a degree from the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering (CEGE) are eligible for a Bolton & Menk Scholarship worth up to $8,000 ($2,000 per year for up to four years). The application deadline is Friday, Oct. 27.

Apply for the ACEC/MN Engineering Education Foundation scholarship by Thursday, Nov. 30

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota (ACEC/MN) is now accepting applications for its Engineering Education Foundation of America (EEFA) scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year. Applications are due Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023.

Attend the Academic Success and Peer Tutoring Fair on Thursday, Sept. 28, to learn about the variety of free academic support services available to you. Talk with tutors and staff about services including drop-in tutoring, academic coaching, research and writing support, and online tools and videos. No registration is required. Stop by Northrop Plaza anytime between 3-4:30 p.m. for information, treats, and free stuff! In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in Walter Library.

CSE Career Services offers extended drop-in hours, Career Fair tours

CSE Career Services will hold extended drop-in hours Monday, Sept. 11-Friday, Sept. 15 from 1-4 p.m., and Monday, Sept. 18 from 9 a.m.-noon, in preparation for the Fall 2023 CSE Career Fair on Tuesday, Sept. 19-Wednesday, Sept. 20. You can meet with a career counselor for 5-10 minutes to ask questions about the career fair and have your resume reviewed. Drop-ins are held in Lind Hall, Room 105 Monday-Thursday, and virtually on Friday.

Academic Advising will hold extended drop-in hours on Tuesday, Sept. 5

CSE Academic Advising will hold extended virtual drop-in advising hours on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., via Zoom and in person in Lind Hall, Room 105. You must check in by 3:45 p.m. Normal drop-in advising hours are 2-4 p.m., Monday-Friday and will resume Wednesday, Sept. 6.

CSE Ambassadors are seeking sophomore, junior, and senior students to be peer mentors to first-year students during the 2023-24 academic year. Mentors will receive a $200 scholarship for spring semester 2024.
