Attend Patent Careers for Engineers and Scientists on Thursday, Feb. 27

The Practising Law Institute (PLI) will host an information session for CSE students to learn about careers as a patent agent on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 4-5 p.m, in Mechanical Engineering Building, room 221. The session also will include information about the exam required to become a patent agent.

The Practising Law Institute (PLI) will host an information session for CSE students to learn about careers as a patent agent. The session also will include information about the exam required to become a patent agent. Mark Dighton, PLI's Director of Law School Relations and a director of the patent office exam course, will lead the session.

Patent Careers for Engineers and Scientists
Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025
4-5 p.m.

Those who have obtained or soon will obtain degrees in engineering, computer sciences, or the hard sciences (such as chemistry, biology, physics, and related disciplines) are eligible to take the exam. Patent agents have the potential to earn up to $20,000 more per year than similarly situated engineers and scientists and are one step closer to a career as a patent attorney. The exam is available virtually on-demand via computer.

Topics will include:
  • an overview of the work and where to find opportunities
  • qualities and skills necessary for success and satisfaction in the field
  • up-to-date information on the patent office's registration exam
