Important information!
All College of Science and Engineering (CSE) students who have an OA or MDR hold are required to meet with their academic advisor prior to the fall semester to discuss registration. Please note that most students will not register until later in April; however, students are strongly encouraged to schedule now, as appointments book up quickly. Schedule your academic advising appointment online or by calling 612-624-2890.
College Advisor Approval Hold (OA):
To have this hold removed, you must schedule a 30-minute appointment with your CSE academic advisor. This is an opportunity to discuss your academic performance and experience at the University of Minnesota, major and career exploration, course planning, and campus engagement.
Come prepared for your advising appointment by reviewing your APAS report and four-year plan for your intended major ahead of time. It also helps to come with any questions you might have written down. Once appointment slots are available, you can schedule an appointment by calling the front desk at 612-624-2890 or online through the CSE Advising Appointments webpage.
Major Declaration Hold (MDR):
To have this hold removed, you must be admitted to a major in CSE or transfer to another college at the University of Minnesota. You must meet with your college advisor to discuss your plans moving forward, as well as share how the current semester is going. Contact your advisor if you have any additional questions about your hold.
CSE students who have been admitted to the major (upper-division) should contact their department for registration advising.
Unsure about what the registration hold on your record means? Check out the 'Who Removes My Advising Hold?' post on the CSE Advising Blog for more information.
Please note that academic advising appointments are covered by FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). You have the right to keep your academic information private, including the right to a one-on-one appointment with your advisor. Your advisor will expect that you will be the only one present in the room during your appointment. If you schedule your appointment via Zoom, please arrange for a private, quiet location in which to hold your appointment. If you are unable to access a private location, please contact your advisor at least 48 business hours in advance of your appointment.
If you have questions, call 612-624-2890 or email your advisor.
